English is a second language for one in four children in Australian schools. This book was written specifically for teachers of these children, but all teachers will find much of value here. Pauline Gibbons bases her approach on two assumptions: first, the classroom program is a major resource for language development; and second, students’ needs require a responsive program which incorporates a wide range of strategies.
